Well now, I gotta tell ya somethin’ about that Chrissy Teigen’s French toast. It’s somethin’ else, lemme tell ya. I ain’t no chef, but I know a good meal when I see one. You see, Chrissy, she ain’t just a pretty face. She knows her way ’round the kitchen, that’s for sure. I tried makin’ her French toast the other day, and hoo boy, it was like a little piece of heaven on a plate! You know how us folks like to keep things simple, well, this recipe here ain’t too hard, but it sure tastes like you spent all day bakin’ it. Let me tell ya all ’bout it!
First off, you gotta get yourself some thick bread. Not that skinny stuff you get at the store, no sir. You need something hearty. I use a nice loaf of challah bread. Now, I ain’t sure where Chrissy got hers, but if you’re like me, you just grab what’s at the store. Don’t go wastin’ time on fancy stuff. A good ol’ thick slice of bread works just fine!
Ingredients:
- 4 thick slices of bread (I use challah, but you can use any bread ya got)
- 2 eggs
- 1/4 cup milk (or more, if ya want it a bit creamier)
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 tablespoon sugar (or more if ya like it sweet, I ain’t judgin’)
- 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon (if ya got it, if not, don’t worry)
- Butter, for cookin’ (don’t be shy with the butter)
- Powdered sugar (for sprinklin’ on top)
- Some syrup, the real kind if you can get it, but any syrup works!
Now, once ya got all your ingredients, ya go ahead and beat them eggs in a bowl. Add in that milk, sugar, vanilla, and cinnamon. Give it all a good whiskin’. You don’t want no lumps in there, so make sure it’s smooth. Just like makin’ pancakes, ya gotta get that mixture just right.
Next, heat up a big ol’ skillet or a griddle if ya got one. Put it on medium heat and let it warm up. Then, grab yourself a slice of bread and dip it right into that egg mixture. You want to coat both sides good and proper. Don’t let it soak too long, but make sure it’s all wet. Then, throw that slice of bread onto the hot skillet. You’ll hear a nice sizzle. That’s the sound of breakfast comin’ to life!
Now, cook each side for about 2-3 minutes or until it’s golden brown and crispy-like. Ain’t nothing better than that crispy, buttery outside and that soft, custardy inside. Don’t rush it now. Flip ‘em over carefully, ‘cause you don’t wanna make a mess. Once they’re done, set ‘em aside on a plate.
Serving up the French Toast:
Once your French toast is all cooked, it’s time to serve it up right. Grab a nice plate, and lay down your slices of French toast. Sprinkle a little powdered sugar on top – don’t be shy now, it’s like snow on the ground, just a dustin’ of sweetness. Then, drizzle that syrup all over. Ain’t no such thing as too much syrup, as far as I’m concerned. Pour it on like you’re givin’ the toast a bath!
If you want, you can add some fruit on top. Strawberries, blueberries, bananas, whatever you got in the fridge. Or heck, if you’re feelin’ fancy, maybe some whipped cream. I usually just stick with the basics, but you do you. It’s your French toast!
Tips and Tricks:
- If you’re makin’ a lot of French toast, keep the cooked slices warm in the oven. Just pop ‘em on a baking sheet and put ‘em in a low oven, around 200°F, so they stay nice and warm while you finish cookin’ the rest.
- For extra flavor, you can add a pinch of nutmeg to the egg mixture. Just a tiny bit though, or it’ll be too strong.
- If you’re in a real hurry, make the egg mixture the night before and store it in the fridge. Then in the mornin’, all you gotta do is dip and cook!
Well, there you go! That’s Chrissy Teigen’s French toast. Ain’t nothin’ to it, but it sure does taste like a lot of effort went into it. Give it a try next time you’re lookin’ to impress folks at breakfast, or even if you’re just wantin’ somethin’ nice for yourself. You won’t regret it, I promise ya!
