Ah, let me tell ya ’bout this here Paula Deen French Toast Casserole. It’s real easy to make, and, oh, it’ll fill your kitchen up with a smell that’ll make your mouth water faster than a cow runnin’ from a bull. Now, the first thing ya gotta do is get ya some French bread, about a whole loaf, slice it up into thick pieces. Don’t be shy with it, just slice it nice and thick.
Now, in a big ol’ bowl, crack a couple of eggs. You don’t need to count ’em too hard, just crack ‘em in there, and pour in some milk and half-and-half. If you don’t have half-and-half, well, regular milk’ll work just fine. Then, you throw in some sugar, a little vanilla, and for that extra somethin’ special, cinnamon and nutmeg. Don’t be stingy with the cinnamon, give it a good shake. Stir it all up till it’s mixed real nice.
Next thing you do is take that sliced French bread and lay it down in a big ol’ casserole dish. Layer it nice and even, but don’t be worryin’ if it’s a little messy—it’s all gonna bake together anyways. Now, pour that egg mixture over the bread. Make sure it soaks in good, especially where the bread’s a bit dry. Then, grab some pecans, chop ‘em up a little, and sprinkle ‘em on top. If you like it sweet, drizzle a lil’ maple syrup over the whole thing, too.
Now, cover it up with some foil and pop it in the oven. You’ll wanna bake it at about 350°F for, oh, 30-40 minutes. Take the foil off towards the end to let it get golden brown on top. When it’s done, you can serve it hot with more syrup if you want, or even some whipped cream if you’re feelin’ fancy.
This casserole ain’t just for breakfast neither. You can serve it for brunch or even as a dessert if you feel like it. Everyone’s gonna love it, and you’ll be the talk of the town for makin’ such a treat. Trust me, once ya try this Paula Deen French Toast Casserole, you won’t wanna make any other kind of French toast again. It’s that good.
