Oh, you know, the seafood in Normandy, it’s somethin’ else. They got that big ol’ coastline, ’bout 600 kilometers long, and you betcha there’s plenty of good seafood. Folks there, they know how to catch all kinds of fish and shellfish from the sea. You’ve got scallops, prawns, mussels – all fresh right from the water.
One thing that’s real famous is their seafood stew. They call it Marmite Dieppoise, sounds fancy, huh? But really, it’s just a good ol’ fish stew. They throw in scallops, prawns, maybe some white fish if they got it, and then cook it up in a nice broth. It’s rich and full of flavor, just like how it oughta be when you’ve got fresh fish like that. Folks from all around come to try it ’cause it’s just that good.
Now, Normandy ain’t just about stews, no ma’am. The place has got more to offer when it comes to seafood. You can find all sorts of seafood dishes up there, from fresh oysters to grilled fish. Them oysters are some of the best you can get – shucked right on the shore. Ain’t no fresher than that, I tell ya.
Why is Normandy seafood so good?
- Well, for starters, it’s that clean, cold water from the English Channel. It’s perfect for shellfish and all kinds of fish to grow up in.
- Then you got the old-fashioned way they catch things. Lots of folks still fish the way their daddies and granddaddies did. Makes it all taste better, if you ask me.
- And let’s not forget, they know how to cook it right. You take fresh fish, and you don’t need much to make it taste good.
And, oh, don’t get me started on the cheese they got over there, too. You can’t talk ’bout Normandy without mentionin’ their cheese. Camembert, that’s the one everyone talks about. And I tell ya, that soft, creamy cheese goes just fine with seafood. Might sound funny, but try it, you’ll see.
Another thing folks like is the simple grilled fish. Just take some fresh fish, throw it on the grill, maybe with a little butter and lemon, and there you go. Nothin’ fancy, but it sure hits the spot. You can sit there, look out at the sea, and enjoy a good meal, just the way it’s meant to be.
So, if you ever make it to Normandy, you better get yourself some of that seafood. Whether it’s a hearty stew like the Marmite Dieppoise or just some fresh oysters, you won’t leave hungry, that’s for sure. And remember, it’s the sea and the way folks there live off of it that makes it all so special.
